Sustainability continues to be a key purchase driver for every business and rightly so! With national and international summits happening regularly about the climate, we know that the focus will only grow.

Taking a big step forward
In April 2022, the UK Government imposed a tax on plastic products that were not at least 30% recycled. We were already working with our manufacturing partners to achieve a more sustainable packaging source, and in January 2022 all our plastics including our 4 pack toilet tissue, products that are shrink wrapped and pallet wrap, all moved to be made up of 30% PCR (Post Consumer Resin – recycled content).
However, we are now in the midst of rolling out 4 pack toilet tissue made up of 50% post-consumer resin and will look to be moving the shrink wrap to this in the near future too. If you haven’t already you will be sure to notice this on packaging shortly.
All our plastic wrap is 100% recyclable, currently this is only available at larger recycling centres rather than kerbside but from next year, the the UK government are planning on rolling out kerbside recycling too, making it easier to make sustainable choices.
Accreditations & Certifications
The complete range of Pristine paper hygiene products is FSC® certified,
whether made from virgin or recycled fibres, giving buyers and users
confidence that the paper materials have been manufactured from
responsible and sustainable sources.
Our manufacturing partner also carries the bronze standard for EcoVadis,
which is an assessment programme to judge how sustainable a business’
process and procedures are and the Bronze standard was achieved with
a ‘High Impact Score’ for Environment.
The Pristine paper hygiene range also carries the CHSA accreditation,
which you will notice on all packaging, this means that the specification
advertised on the packaging is what’s inside, (There’s a famous Ronseal saying for that!) Now you have read this you might be inclined to check out some competitor products that don’t carry this accreditation and you will be surprised!

Sustainable products
The Pristine’s manufacturing partner is vertically integrated and the whole range is made in the UK, giving the products low product miles, especially when compared to ‘sustainable products’ that are made from raw materials such as bamboo and sugar cane – both of which are only commercially farmed in the far east! In fact, our
products make as little as 118 miles from office waste right through to finished goods, before being delivered to you!
There is also an offering of, 100% recycled paper products across all product categories: Jumbo toilet roll , 4 pack conventional toilet roll, hand towels, paper wiper rolls and hygiene / couch rolls.
Further sustainable packaging improvements
Other steps that have been taken and you will now either be seeing or will shortly are:
- Switching from plastic wraps to recycled paper across all UK made hand towels, a change which has removed lots of plastic from the supply chain
- Introduction of Kraft tape across all box packaging for hand towel, bulk pack tissue and hygiene roll products, a change from traditional plastic tape
- Moving boxed packaging from w bleached white box to a 100% recycled, FSC® certified, single print coloured box
- The supplier for the LDPE wrap has also been changed to a more local producer, reduced upstream transport by approx 213kms per journey

Sustainable washroom system offering
Greenham also offers washroom solutions that drive consumption and waste reduction and ultimately offer potential for cost savings across the washroom.
Ranges such as Raphael, which features innovative toilet tissue and hand towel paper products and dispensers are designed to change washroom habits, through limiting hand towel use and minimising waste. The VersaTwin™ tissue dispenser adds tension to dispensing which limits the paper-per-pull, whilst its twin-roll, single access
design ensures a seamless transition once the first roll is exhausted, ensuring no stub roll waste whilst reducing washroom mess. This can minimise usage in even the most effcient of washroom facilities. Innovative products like this can reduce waste, consumption and labour, giving washroom managers the ability to improve efficiency and cost saving opportunities. Dispensers are offered free-on-loan, which allows you to modernise your washroom facilities at no additional cost.
This range also supports the environmental charity Trees for Cities, with a pledge for a tree to be planted with every Raphael contract, with over 1,000 trees planted in 2023.
